The written three Chinese Han-zi letters are as same as Japanese Kanji letters, although the trees are mostly known as Karakogikaede(鹿子木楓,唐子木楓) among the Japanese languages.
Literally the meaning of "Cha(茶)" as "tea", "tiao(條)" as "stripe" and "Cu(槭)" as "maple(s)" in Chinese-Mandarin, it means somehow "Tea-stripe-maple", besides Japanese identify it as "Karakogikaede - changed from the original name Kanokogikaede(鹿子木楓)" means somehow "Kanoko-patterned tree maple" ....
As the pattern of "partly skinned maple's bark" looks like "white spots or patches of the deerlet ", probably people started to call the maple tree as "KanokoMoyou (no) Ki (no) Kaede" ... literally the meaning of "Ka-no-ko" as "child-of-deer", (abbreviated one letter "no" as "of" ), "Ki" as "tree(s)", (abbreviated again one letter "no" as "of" ) and "Kaede" as "maple aka acer" in Japanese languages, eventually the colloquial pronunciation had changed to "Karakogikaede" as it is said ...
The original Han-zi letter for Maple, Acer, Kaede(楓) should be Cu(槭) letter and not Feng(楓) letter in the old days ...
